Instructional Program 1. Provide instructional leadership within the school 2. Coordinate, implement supervise curriculum development 3. Initiate, organize and recommend educational programming 4. Student Management. 1. Implement and administer the district’s Code of Conduct 2. Promote student self-control and self-discipline in order to maintain a safe school environment for all students 3. Explain school expectations, rules, policies and procedures to students 4. Administer pupil accounting, attendance procedures and records, and enforce of attendance rules and regulations 5. Review and recommend extracurricular programs/activities 6. Support extracurricular programs/activities, 7. Ensure staff supervision of student activities 8. Administer the Academic Eligibility program 8. Administer the Senior Privileges program 9. Arrange/participate in parent conferences as warranted 10. Coordinate efforts with guidance counselors working with "at risk" students 11. Meet with individuals and groups of students on formal and informal bases 12. Recognize individual and group achievement 12. Prepare the student handbook 13. Assign and assure proper maintenance of school lockers 14. General Administration 1. Administer the Regents Examination testing program 2. Administer Basic Educational Data Reporting System (BEDS) and State Education Department (SED) requirements 3. Serve as a member of the High School Building Council 4. Serve as a member of the Scholarship Committee 5. Exercise oversight of the National Honor Society Faculty Council in accordance with the NHS charter 6. Provide administrative oversight of K-12 Music Faculty 7. Provide, with school nurse, a healthy atmosphere for all 8. Coordinate the revision of students handbooks and other documents in an accurate and timely fashion 9. Process/monitor all building maintenance requests 10. Promote a physical environment conducive to learning (attractive, safe, clean, orderly, and in good repair) 11. Work cooperatively with supervisory personnel from other departments and activities (business office, operations, maintenance, food service, transportation) 12. Develop and publish building level monthly calendars 13. Coordinate participation in BOCES Summer School program; administer Canton Summer School component 14. Develop emergency plans; conduct emergency drills |

Fiscal Management 1. Develop requirements that recommend and secure funding for high school programs and activities 2. Participate in district level budgeting process; balance high school interests within the context of the district’s needs 4. Supervise all purchases and expenditures according to district procedures 5. Ensure an accurate and timely system of fiscal record keeping and reporting for the high school segment of the District budget |
Parent and Community Relations 1. Promote positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community 2. Assist in communicating district and building programs/policies to community 3. Support and encourage positive efforts of parent/teacher organizations 4. Support opportunities in which the community can become involved in the school 5. Promote an atmosphere of warmth and welcome for all |

Major Responsibilities and Duties 1. Assist High School Principal in administration of student discipline and other provisions of the District Code of Conduct 2. Serve as adult mentor and role model for all students 3. Document incidents, actions, and programs initiated 4. Coordinate proactive programming to prevent at risk behaviors 5. Work with guidance counselors to facilitate transition of incoming students 6. Design and implement alternative means of disciplining students (e.g., peer mediation, school service) 7. Work with and support faculty and staff with student issues 8. Serve as acting principal or substitute teacher as needed 9. Act as a member of the Instructional Support Team 10. Act as a member of the High School Building Council |
Additional focus areas include, but are not limited to: 1. Assist with attendance administration 2. Assist Principal with Academic Eligibility policy implementation and supervision 3. Assist Principal with Senior Privileges implementation/supervision 4. Assist Principal and Athletic Director with supervision of student extracurricular activities (e.g., dances and athletic events) 5. Conduct Peer Mediation Program (training and administration) 6. Serve as administrator of the Safe Schools, Healthy Schools Grant 7. Serve as School Violence Prevention Training trainer; prepare school’s Violence Incident Report for the State Education Department 8. Coordinate school’s role in Make a Difference Day and other community events 9. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal |
