Mathematics Teacher, April 2009, published my article "Annuals,
Perennials, Periodicals" in the Math Lens column. The article uses
modeling a garden border in a digital photo to investigate composition of sine
and cosine functions.

Student Teacher Conference (Jan 05 - Jan 09, full-day or half-day, SUNY Potsdam, NY) Presented tips from a classroom teacher to about twenty current secondary math student teachers. Topics included using technology effectively, planning for efficient use of class time, teaching linear equations using a variety of activities and concepts that bridge from grade 7 to grade 12.
AP Calculus Audit (Mar 07, full-day, SLVTLC) Presented requirements for College Board AP Audit, demonstrated audit web site, facilitated discussion of how to meet the standards. Participants have time to draft an audit syllabus.
AP Calculus Odds and Ends (Mar 06, 1.5 hours, SLVTLC) Presented a variety of lessons, demonstrations and songs for teaching AP Calculus.
Using a Graphing Calculator to Maximize Math B Scores (Mar 05, 1.5 hours, SLVTLC) Demonstrated how graphing calculator abilities can be used to teach and solve problems for Math B exam.
Math A Hands-On Activities (Mar 05, 1.5 hours, SLVTLC) Participants experienced a number of games that reinforce Math A concepts. Master copies of all games were given to participants.
National Board Certification Awareness Workshop (Oct 04, Canton, NY) presented
a 90-minute overview to interested teachers, sponsored by the Teachers’
Center.
Math B in Motion Workshop (May 04, full-day, SUNY Potsdam, NY) Prepared and
presented sessions on how to teach Math B concepts using hands-on activities
to about twenty local teachers, sponsored by the Teachers’ Center.
National Board Certification Awareness Workshop (Aug 03, SUNY Potsdam, NY)
presented a 90-minute overview to interested teachers as part of the Association
of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) Summer Symposium at SUNY
Potsdam.
Collaboration for Teacher Training with Technology (CTTT) Project (Fall 99,
SUNY Potsdam) Committee member, gave advice on technology integration into curriculum
for future math teachers.
Fathom Workshop (Jan 03, Brasher Falls, NY) Presented an after school workshop
at St. Lawrence Central on how to use Fathom, a statistics and data exploration
software package, and how to teach math concepts with Fathom, including sample
lessons.
Preparing Mathematicians to Educate Teachers, a Mathematical Association of
America (MAA) and NSF Grant (Jun 02, SUNY Potsdam, NY), Served as a high school
teacher advisor to design a 12 day workshop for college mathematics professors
to improve their teaching of future math teachers. Participated in the workshop
through a panel discussion.
WebFeatsII Workshop (Jul 02, West Point, NY) Participated in this National Science
Foundation grant to develop an interactive web site to teach mathematics concepts.
My team developed a web site that teaches calculus applications of volume of
rotation, now freely available to teachers at Team
A
Scheme Workshop (Jul 01 and Jul 03, Brown University, RI) First participated
as a student in this National Science Foundation workshop on teaching computer
science, later returned as a master teacher.
Fathom Workshop (Jul 00, University of California, Berkeley, CA) participated
as a student in this week-long workshop to learn to use Fathom, a statistics
software package.
College Board AP Calculus Workshop (Jul 99, Fitchburg State College, MA) Participated
as a student in this week-long workshop to learn how to teach AP Calculus with
emphasis on teaching concepts in-depth and the details of AP grading procedures.
My students have greatly benefited from my attendance at this workshop.
Mathematics Teacher (Nov 96) Published
article on incorporating authentic assessment into the Regents curriculum,
including a student written original logic proof.
Geometer's Sketchpad Workshop (Mar 96, Canton, NY) Presented a county-wide workshop
on using Geometer's Sketchpad, dynamic geometry construction software.
Mathematics Teacher (Sep 94) NCTM published in their inaugural column of Media
Clips a letter to the editor I submitted to the Watertown Times. The letter
pointed out the mathematics involved in determining that an article on filling
the Grand Canyon with peanut butter exaggerated the consumption rate.
Tech Prep Teachers' Workshop (Jun 94, Paul Smiths College, NY) Presented a workshop
on Applied Math Implementation to teachers from northern New York schools. All
participants evaluated the workshop as excellent.
Gender Equity Conference (Mar 94, Clarkson University) Presented a workshop
on Math, Careers and Gender Equity to teachers and counselors from St. Lawrence
County attending the annual Gender Equity Conference.
